The Merchant of Venice (Manga Shakespeare) Details
One of Shakespeare's greatest and, in recent times, most controversial plays, 'The Merchant of Venice' tells how after borrowing a large sum of money from the Jewish money-lender Shylock, the merchant Antonio faces a devastating credit crunch when his fleet of ships is sunk in a storm.

Reviews
This Manga Merchant is really well done. I intend to use it for a class of 13/14 year olds and can see that it will be easy to adapt for Reader's Theatre style readings. The introduction displaying the characters in colour is great for identifying the cast later on in the play; the abridged version does not leave out any significant text but lengths of speeches are suitable for younger readers. Using two readers for the main roles means that there are about 25 parts available- the minor parts quite suitable for less able readers. I think the unusual fantasy setting will provide discussion. I've been looking for a workable Merchant for several years now-this it it.
